Grandma's Doughnuts 1 cup sugar ½ cup butter, softened 1/ cup milk, slightly warmed 3 eggs, slightly beaten 1 Tbsp. baking powder 3½ cups flour Cooking oil Confectioners' sugar Cream sugar and butter. Add milk and eggs and mix well. Add baking powder and 2 cups flour. Mix lightly. Turn out on a floured board and lightly knead in remaining flour until a soft dough is formed. Roll dough ¼-inch thick and cut with a doughnut cutter. Fry in hot oil until brown. Roll in confectioners' sugar while still warm. (When frying doughnuts, they will first drop to the bottom of the pan, but should float to the top in a moment. If dough does not rise, the oil is not hot enough and the doughnuts will be soaked in oil.)
